2004-07-13 | ROCK THE V*TE

The great thing about Fahrenheit 9/11 is that even people who haven't seen it, are still having intense discussions about it.

My boss, Green, is a big Bush supporter, which is weird because he says he's always considered himself to be a democrat. (he voted for Clinton twice, and one of the main reasons he voted for Bush was because he didn't like Gore, and he doesn't like Kerry, so he'll probably fuck up and vote for Bush again.)

Terry who works in one of the restaurants in the hotel is a huge Kerry supporter, so today he and my boss got into it pretty good. It was really intense for a few minutes, but I loved it, because I think that's what the world needs right now. The good thing about having a fucked up person in the White House is that it gets everybody who's against it to get motivated, and angry, and it helps spark creativity, and fortunately, most of the people who give a shit happen to be cool people, and often artistic, such as musicians, and you can see it in people on tv, people get angry, and it makes tv more interesting, and you hear it in music, the music is more angry and confrontational and controversial, and it makes you want to stay tuned for more.

Although I don't agree with a lot of my bosses views, I respect him for speaking his mind, but the biggest problem I have is that he doesn't like to listen to other points of views all the time, though I must say that Terrys views are a little skewed sometimes, even though I'm more on his side politically. I still wish both of them would listen a little more.

But I'm glad to see people fired up and talking and not keeping shit bottled up, and wanting change, and actually doing something about it. Even I feel like voting now, and that says a lot, because I never thought my vote counted, but I now I feel like it's my duty, because if I sit at home, and Bush gets elected again, I won't be able to live with myself. At least if I get off my ass and I rock the motherfucking vote, I can say I did my part to try and make the world a better place.

We were talking about Fahrenheit 9/11, and there were like 3 Bush supporters there who hadn't seen it, of course, but had all kinds of excuses for the shit he does in it. I wish I had spoken up more, but I guess that's not in my nature. The thing I kept yelling to myself internally was "there are certain things you can't take out of context." Sometimes shit just doesn't add up, and you've got to come to terms with it, whether you support the person or not. But I understand how hard it is to admit that you or someone you feel strongly for is wrong.

This one lady, Nancy, was saying that they could've made a movie like this about any president. Truth is, there hasn't been a president this idiotic in house maybe ever, and definitely since I've been old enough to follow the presidents. But I feel bad for him sometimes, because I truly feel he is ignorant, and I don't mean that in a necessarily negative way. I think he's truly clueless about certain things, and those times you see him and he looks dumbfounded, I believe it's because he's wishing he had never taken the job, because he knows it's too much for him sometimes, but I'm sure he thanks god everynight for the people who tell him what to do, and who make the decisions that he is either too scared, too stupid, or doesn't have enough balls to make. And a lot of it isn't his fault, but he's going to take the fault for it. And if all these dumbfucks are there because of him, then he and they both need to be gone, like yesterday. So get out there and vote. I'm talking to you and I'm talking to me. Because we need someone just slightly more levelheaded up there. You voted the elder Bush out of office, and now he appears to still be the president. Dude is way too connected. He makes way too many decisions. You elected his son, which pretty much meant you re-elected his dad. Why did we do that? It makes me so angry. It doesn't make sense. Forget all the corrupt shit that was involved in the election. The fact is that it shouldn't have been that close in the first place. We shouldn't have made Florida an issue. Are we that stupid? I'm kind of glad Gore isn't president sometimes, just because I don't think he's the sharpest tool in the shed either, and because I don't entirely trust the man, but then I remember who is the president, and I think "maybe it wouldn't have been that bad." In prior years, I would semi-consider voting for a republican, for some sort of office, if they seemed like they had something to offer, besides their disillusioned choice of party. But after this whole fiasco, I don't know if I could ever vote for a republican. No. I don't see that happening. I couldn't do it with a clear conscience.

Not now.

But back to the lady who said that they could've made a movie like this about any President. The fact is that it's no coincidence that this guy is this hated, and this many people are rebelling against him, and that you see more protesting than you've seen in recent years. We're not just picking on him because we've never liked him. He was popular enough to be voted into office. We just can't ignore the destructive things that have happened since he's been in office. The shit that doesn't add up. The infighting within his cabinet. The corrupt connections. The lies. The inconsistencies. The discomfort. The shame. The sadness. The secrets of his presidency deserve to be exposed, because it could be an important step historically, because it could help make the world safer, and it could make us sleep a little better at night, and have a little pride. You think patriotism was a big hit when 9/11 happened? Wait until everyone is happier, and there's actually some harmony in the world. Sorry, I don't mean to sound all lovey dovey. I love the turmoil, and the rebellion, but I also like being carefree. It's kind of like my songs. They're a lot cooler when I'm angry or sad, but they're more fun to write when I'm happy. When the world is a better place, art suffers, like the radio sucks, but it's also easier to fall asleep to.
