2002-11-08 | TO HELL WITH THE DEVIL

Who are these people who don't have favorite bands listed on their diaryland profiles?

Music has such a profound role in my life, that i can't imagine someone not even having it as a minor one in theirs.

Some people don't have anything listed. No favorite diaries, no bands, no movies, no authors. I'm sure they just haven't gotten to it yet.

But there's the people that really bother me.....

They have a thousand favorite diaries, a bunch of movies, and 5 lame authors that nobody has ever heard of, but no favorite bands. This is just irresponsible.

This tells me that music means nothing to them. They don't even have one band that means something to them. That's just tragic, don't you think?

What about people that list like 2 bands and then that's it? And it's always like two bands that aren't like the greatest in the world, or two that don't fit together. It'll be like Something Corporate and Authority Zero. Or like.........Goo Goo Dolls and Megadeth. And then there are idiots that have two bands listed and one of them is really good, so for a second you think they're cool, but then their second band is horrible. It will be like.....Modest Mouse and Avril Lavigne.

By the way..Avril Lavigne is an idiot.

Michelle Branch is boring.

and Shakira is just a friggin mess.

Somebody please notify these ass clowns that they have nothing to do with punk, or rock and roll in general.

Avril is like Celine Morrisette wearing Droors.

Michelle Branch is Sarah MacSucklan in a Ramones t-shirt, or which ever punk band she found about the other day.

Shakira hocks Pepsi cola in a fucking Judas Priest shirt. Corporate colas rock baby!! I drink a lot of soda, but I would sell my soul to the "real" devil (like there even is one) before selling my soul to the devil that is Pepsico.

Sorry, cool people, but I have a confession to make.

I like Sum 41 now.

I thought I would hate them forever after their last album, and that irritating Fat Lip video with all the fake fans getting their hair cut and stuff. The only thing I liked was the version with the metal song at the end of the video.

But their new video is rad. I love the Strokes rip-off, and I like the song. It's not generic. And I love the way the bass player weilds his tool of terror.

Then I saw a documentary of them on Much Music last night, and I like them even more now. They're pretty hilarious. Sometimes they're lame, but everybody is eventually. I probably won't buy their disk at full price, but I'll be happy to see what half.com has to offer. I also love the way they destroyed the set at the end of their video like everybody else loves to do now days. I just thought the way they did it was original, if destroying instruments can be original at all anymore. But the reason it was funny is because all the guys in the band are pretty puny, and clumsy, and they were like tripping over the same equipment they were smashing.

The band name they came up with was bad enough, but the video for Audioslave (RATM with Cornell replacing DeLaRocha) is super boring. That, and the new Foo Fighters video are just extremely blah. Another rock and roll band playing a live performance to no audience. How riveting.

The funniest video i've seen in a while award goes to Bowling for Soup. Their music isn't the greatest, but their video is hilarious.

They make fun of Limp Bizkit and some other lamoes, but most notably they made fun of Stainds "It's been a while" video. The singer was all bald, and looking angry and sad and stuff, and then he accidentally lit the whole place on fire. I don't know how much airplay it's going to get, because it's a great video, but the song probably isn't going to be a smash hit. If you do catch it, though i'm sure you'll have a good laugh.

Well it looks like I'll be going to Beck and the Flaming Lips here in Long Beach, unless it's sold out, and if it is, we'll probably see it somewhere else. I hope I catch it. It should be really fun.

Beck and the Flaming Lips both had individual performances last week on Conan O'Brien. It was outstanding.

When Beck was on, the Flaming Lips were his backing band (as they are on the tour), but Wayne Coyne just sat on the ground under a blanket bobbing his head with none other then Ted Danson. (it's a long story) Ted Danson was also playing the triangle.

NO, I'M NOT JOKING.

When the Flaming Lips were on they were dressed up for Halloween and had all these awesome freaks on stage in weird costumes just dancing around. Some of Conan's awesome skit players were in the "band" for that performance. The guy that was "playing" bass, was hilarious. I love him in skits on that show, too, but that was him at his best. The faces he made while he "played" were hilarious.

I'm still wondering if one of the people in the amusement park type costumes was Beck. I'm going to say "probably", but there's no way of confirming it.

Thanks for reading, and have a lovely evening.

My time is up.

How 'bout a round of applause for my back up band Kajagoogoo?

Goodnight.

The incomporable Rich Little is up next.
