2002-09-09 | HOLY SHITAKE MUSHROOMS/ SPY KIDS IN THE GYLLENHAAL

i can't believe this album only cost me $7.99. (queens of the stone age) it should be a crime.

so, i've seen some movies recently. we'll....some not so recently, but i didn't talk about them before.

road to perdition was pretty cool, but not enough violence. it could've been even more mafia violence oriented. Jude Law was a real prick in this movie. Bugger off mate.

The kid that played Tom Hanks' older son was really good, also.

SIGNS was very good. It wasn't what I was expecting. Ebert did a good job of not giving away the movie in his written review of it. The movie was very riveting, and at times scary. I'm a big fan of M. Night Shyamalan, and was surprised to see him acting in his own movie. He was very good, though. Very simple. He didn't ruin his movie like Spike Lee tends to do in his "joints".

I saw this movie late at night on like Cinemax or something long time ago, and i think i forgot to tell you guys about it.

It's called ART HOUSE, and believe it or not stars Chris Hardwick! Yes, the guy that used to host Singled Out. He's a very good actor. He uses an english accent in this movie.

The movie is about these young aspiring film makers, and quirky hollywood people, and porn stars and all kinds of whacky stuff. It's a really entertaining movie. There's a lot of engaging young unknown actors involved in it. Somebody reviewed it at 3 stars, and for once they hit the nail right on the head. Could've even used an extra half star. I highly recommend you see this movie.

Goldmember was worth watching just for the amazing cameo appearances. WOW! There's some really funny moments, but it's not nearly as funny as the first two.

I caught SPY KIDS on HBO or something one day, and I ended up watching the whole thing. I really enjoyed it. The little girl is pretty funny. The boy too. I thought the girl was irritating in the previews, but she's actually pretty cool. It helps that it's directed by Robert Rodriguez. He's done some cool stuff. I don't like Alan Cumming as much as I used to. I don't know why. He seems to be one of those people that change more everytime i see him, i.e. the more famous he gets. I don't like that. He's not as nice on Conan anymore. That's how I gauge peoples attitudes alot. How they behave on Conan O'Brien. I've lost my respect for alot of showbiz people after seeing them be asses on Conan.

Did you see AND YOU WILL KNOW US BY THE TRAIL OF DEAD on Conan last week? They were also on Letterman a while back.

On Letterman I think they pushed an amp over, or something like that. But on Conan the drummer pushed the entire drum set over onto the stage, and they were pushing all the amps over and stuff, and stuffing guitars into them. These guys are one of my favorite bands, but I think they're destroying of equipment is a little bit too lame right now. I mean do they really need to do it EVERYTIME they perform? Doesn't it lose some of it's rebellion after doing it every show?

I saw the preview for Gangs of New York, and I'm kind of looking forward to it. I love almost all of Scorceses movies, and Daniel Day Lewis looks really cool in his "get up". Did you know that he had quit making films so he could make shoes? True story.

Intermission: (for all you naked lady seeking perverts out there!)

back to my babbling. (like you're even reading anymore) I'm anxiously awaiting ONE HOUR PHOTO to come to my town. I have a bad feeling for some reason that it may not come here. I hope they prove me wrong.

I saw a short (no pun intended) mockumentary about the "little people" who acted in Willy Wonka. It's called BIT PLAYERS, and it stars Verne Troyer, aka: Mini Me. It's pretty funny. They tell these stories about behind the scene stuff that happened on the set. It's supposed to take place during the filming of that movie.

There's this one part where I guess that little kid, i forget his name, i guess he was a real prick on the set, and he was pissing in the chocolate river. So Gene Wilder caught him, and decided to piss on his shoes. Then he picked up a giant prop mushroom and hit the kid into the chocolate river. It's funny...there's this Stage Director in the movie, and he's played by Robert Romanus who played Mike Damone in Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

One of the coolest movies i've seen in a while is this movie called HIGHWAY which stars Jared Leto and my favorite new actor!, Jake Gyllenhaal. That's a picture of him at the top of this entry. He seems like such a cool guy. I'd love to hang out with him. I will some day! Mark my words, biiiooootch. This movie also has Selma Blair in it, which makes it worth watching right there. She is delicious. I'll copy and paste some text about this movie below if you want to read what it's about. It's not the best movie you'll ever see, but it's entertaining and it has alot of cool people in it. Jeremy Piven has a bit part in it, and John C. McGinley from Scrubs is in it. Scrubs will be back soon!! I can't wait. That show is so fucking amazing.

This song by Fugazi "The Argument" is remarkably similar to alot of RHCPs newer material. I wonder if RHCP has been influenced by them at all. I wonder how Ian would feel about that... They wouldn't tour with Pearl Jam.

There's this great movie about AIDS called AND THE BAND PLAYED ON, but i wrote too much stuff about it to type onto here. I'll talk about it another time.

Here's the info about HIGHWAY:

(R) WARNER HOME VIDEO, 2001, 97 Minutes

Starring: Jared Leto, Jake Gyllenhaal, Selma Blair, John McGinley

Director: James Cox

All Movie Guide rating: 2 stars (i call it 3, but that's just a matter of taste)

Two friends hit the road to escape some homicidal gangsters with a score to settle in this angsty Gen-X flick set against the backdrop of the mid-'90s grunge music scene. Highway opens with its mohawked post-teen hero Jack (Jared Leto), up to his usual routine: smoking pot, cleaning pools, and engaging in vigorous sex with a mobster's wife. It isn't long before vengeful thugs come calling to his Las Vegas trailer-park home, however, and Jack has to flee town with his drug-dealing best buddy, Pilot (Jake Gyllenhaal). The two decide to travel to Seattle -- in the week preceding Kurt Cobain's suicide -- and along the way they encounter a succession of drifters, losers, and hangers-on, including a sweet-hearted prostitute named Cassie (Selma Blair). Highway's working title was "A Leonard Cohen Afterworld," a reference to a lyric from Kurt Cobain's song "Pennyroyal Tea"; the film was written by Scott Rosenberg, who previously made a name for himself with Things to Do in Denver When You're Dead, Beautiful Girls, and Con Air. ~ Michael Hastings, All Movie Guide
