2002-03-19 | IN WALLACES SHADOW

more notes for Ryan.

Boilermaker "In Wallaces Shadow"-

it was great, just as the other two albums were. I think I may have enjoyed this one the most so far, but maybe it's just that they keep growing on me more and more. Maybe after listening to each album 3 or 4 times I will be better at defining it, and describing it, and can give you a much more thorough review.

Started listening to Leucadia today. That first song on there (i think it's one of the new tracks) is amazing. And I remember the second song. I think if i'm not mistaken it may have been the first song on Watercourse. It has a great intro. My friend and I were actually freestyling to that intro a little the other night. What are the lyrics of that first song? At first I was thinking he said something about breaking his heart. Now it sounds like he's saying "breaking all my arms". I'm probably wrong on both counts, and here's a third: Is he saying "I'm sorry"? I'm almost positive I'm way off. It just sounds too simple. I sing along but i don't really know what i'm singing. I just love it.

I'm not crazy about the EXPERT ON OCTOBER cd yet, but I haven't really had a chance to absorb it that well. I was kind of distracted the other night while listening to it. I didn't get the whole feel. I didn't hate it. It just sounded really laid back and basic for the most part. I'll listen to it again later this week probably.

The NEW TRANSIT DIRECTION was great!! I really enjoyed it. They sound like they could be very successful. It sounds so great. I will be doing research on them. I liked that they threw in the whole "Ms. Jackson" thing at the end of that one song. (although I hate the real "Ms. Jackson". way overplayed) This was one of my favorites so far of all the stuff you sent me. It's just very well done music. Tons of potential. I think they're there already. I'm not familiar with what label they're on, or how well known they are or anything, but they should be heard.

ELBOW was a very interesting, and soothing album. I enjoyed listening to it while driving to and from work.

Hey, Ryan, one more thing. That article about you was great! I'm so proud of you man. You inspired me alot in that article to get off my ass and do something with my talent. I look forward to hopefully (hint hint!) collaborating with you on numerous things in the future. You are awesome. I had no idea how much you have gone through, and what you have accomplished. You're so humble. There's so much you could brag about, but I know you want so much more, and I know you will get it. I hope the people who work with you everyday and see how hard you work appreciate it, and i hope they voice their positive opinions, and don't just bother you with their gripes. I'm sure you have your share of great as well as bad experiences with people, but you seem to keep a pretty level head. Keep up the good work. Seriously. I know i sound like some lame motivational speaker or something, but i just want to make sure you know that some of us out there care.
