2002-01-14 | TED DEMME
i'm watching Howard Stern on E!, and all of a sudden, on the bottom of the screen, i read: TED DEMME, DIRECTOR OF BLOW IS DEAD AT 38 me- "what!......fuck!" HE COLLAPSED WHILE PLAYING BASKETBALL "shit" NO OFFICIAL CAUSE OF DEATH HAS BEEN DETERMINED I can't believe Ted Demme is dead. Most people don't care, or even know who he is. But I've been following him ever since YO MTV RAPS days, which i believe he created. I tried to find more information before I started writing this entry, but I guess it's not a major enough story to find easily on the computer. The last, and probably the most well known thing he had done was "BLOW", starring Johnny Depp, and Paul Reubens. It was a pretty decent movie. I don't know if he had any new things in the work or anything. Something tells me he had something big coming out soon, but i forget. I just read that headline like 10 minutes ago, so i'm kind of sketchy on everything. It seems like he may be the first, or one of the first MTV alumnus to die. I'm sure they'll have some kind of report. I think he may have had something to do with the awesome "REMOTE CONTROL" as well, but don't quote me on that. I think he was really good friends with Dennis Leary but I could be wrong on that also. They've worked together a few times. I know that much is true. I don't know why I took it so hard. I guess because he's so young, and he seems like he comes from the same generation. He was so involved with cool things that i enjoyed in pop culture. He was at MTV when it was cool. I know his father, Jonathan (i think it's his dad) worked on alot of amazing stuff, too. Let me check. It's sad, I think his father is still alive. I think he had a heart attack, because lately "he a no a look-ah sooo goode". I don't think he was in the best of shape. I think he had become really close with GEORGE JUNG who the movie "BLOW" was based on. I think that Ted was his most frequent visitor in prison. I'm sure GEORGE, and DENNIS, and the old mtv-ites, and mtv-heads will take it hard, too. Oh, i just did some research. Jonathan has worked on such things as STOP MAKING SENSE, SOMETHING WILD, some ROBYN HITCHCOCK concert thing that seems pretty cool, SILENCE OF THE LAMBS, PHILADELPHIA, HAROLD AND MELVIN, etc. Ted worked on: ROUNDERS THE REF NO CURE FOR CANCER BEAUTIFUL GIRLS and the horrible but somewhat entertaining because of all the cheesy rappers: WHO'S THE MAN? I don't know. I've always liked him for some reason. Everytime I saw him on tv, there was something about him that i liked. I'll miss him. I hope it wasn't drugs.
