'CYPRESS HILL SMOKEOUT'

So, I went to a rock and roll concert yesterday. These kids and their loud gee-tars. I'm getting too old for concerts. Or maybe the concerts are too "old". It's always the same old bands coming back, and never ones that I haven't seen. Yesterdays concert started off with a local band, the Numbskulls. They play a very steady, poppy brand of punk. Very reminiscent of the fat wreck chords bands. They have alot of potential. They could probably use a little better song topics, but you can say that for alot of punk bands. They were good. I had no complaint. Excellent musicianship.

The next band was one of my all-time favorites, especially live, Guttermouth. Sure they have alot of dumb ass songs and are super silly, but I love them. I had given up on them for like a year at one point, but I came back with open arms. Mark is a maniac. He was drunk again, but didn't throw up this time, like he did last year. During the opening verse of the first song, he was doing his normal half-drunken, half-staged stupor, and backed up right into the corner of the drum set and fell backwards onto the stage. At first i thought he did it on purpose, but you could tell by his face that it was an accident. Nonetheless, he laughed it off, and made the "i've been drinking backstage" gesture with his hand. The rest of the show was vintage guttermouth with them bolting through about 12 songs in 45 minutes, i would guess. One of the funniest things about their set was when Mark took his shirt off halfway through the second song, to reveal duct tape "x's" over his nipples. He kept his shirt off the entire set, and the left duct tape x barely hung on for dear life. The funniest part of the show was when he said "we're going to take 5" and they consequently played this pre-recorded booty hip-hop parody song and danced to it. Then Mark jokingly started clapping rhythmically with it, and the crowd followed suit for approximately 4 minutes. It was hilarious. I don't remember exactly, but it said something like "fuck it up girl, fuck it up, fuck it up girl, fuck it up" over and over again with a cheesy hip hop beat with a hi-hat. it was really funny, trust me. The highlights were the rollerblading song and the lucky the luckiest donkey song which i can't remember the titles to. Also the one about his mom. I should know more titles. Overall, they did well as usual. they put on a good show live, and they're humorous. The only bands that rivaled them in humorous shows that i have seen are Less Than Jake and Skankin Pickle with their Hulk Hogan wrestling matches.

Up next were the incomporable NoFx. Outstanding as always. Fat Mike was in a pretty good mood. El Hefe was funny. Eric Melvin was gentle. They were making fun of people in a cool way, as usual. They started off with "Linoleum" and did other favorites such as "The Brews", "What's the matter with my parents these days", "Bottles To the Ground", "Kill all the White Men", etc. They even did a Rancid cover. Unfortunately I didn't remember the title of the Rancid song. NoFx sarcastically bragged about being the oldest band there, because Suicidal Tendencies didn't show up. NoFx has been together for 18 years, i think he said.

I know I'm a total party pooper, or whatever, but I left when Pennywise was starting their second song, which ironically was one of my favorites of theirs. But i've seen them like 4 times already, and frankly I was already bored of them after the second. So I missed them and Cypress Hill and I still feel like I got my moneys worth. I had a good time. Got sunburnt. But didn't get a headache like usual. Almost got into a fight, which is ultra-rare for me. Almost bizarre for people that know me well. It was all dirt in the front. I was filthy. My shoes are still covered in dirt. There were rocks in the pit area, also. Lots of blood was shed.

Anyway, in completely unrelated, and utterly un-punk news..... Ken Olin is a massively underrated actor. Does he not go out for roles? Is he not in alot of stuff by his choice, or because he's underappreciated? He is really good in Thirtysomething. Laugh all you want, punkers! How come they can make a masterful one hour episode of a series in a short time frame, but some directors can't put together a watchable movie in 6 months? It's sad.

I hardly ever watch cnn or fox news channel or those other things, but I was watching 'Hannity and Colmes' on FNC for awhile tonight. They're pretty funny for total right wing republicans. I turned to the show to watch Richard Gere and Hillary Clinton get booed, but was lured in to them by their surprising wit, and comforting aggressiveness to people who are totally anti-america right now. But they're so friggin republican. Yuck. One of those two guys is super ugly, but he has a gentle personality on the surface. I haven't seen enough of them to officially judge them, yet, but they entertained me tonight. How come everytime i turn it to CNN or FNC or any news channel, everyone is mostly conservative? Like total right wing republicans? It's weird. Speaking of right wingers, have you heard about Rush Limbaugh? I heard that he has severe damage in his ears and is going gradually deaf, and will be completely deaf in his ears in a couple months or weeks or something. That's crazy. I guess he's going to keep doing the show anyway. I heard somebody say "it doesn't matter, because he doesn't listen much, anyway". Whether you like him or hate him, that was cold. But very funny.

G'day, Jonathan Pebblestone esq.
