2003-12-19 | NOT STOOPID MEANING DUMB, BUT STOOPID MEANING PRETTY DECENT I GUESS

Here are my opinions on the best stuff of the year. It doesn't matter if you agree or not, because neither one of us has seen or tried everything, so we can't be completely right or wrong. It's just fun to find out about stuff that maybe you haven't experienced yet. So here it is, jacko.

DVD of the year: Tenacious D The Complete Master Works
Runner up: Primus Animals Should Not Try To Act Like People

Mainstream magazine of the year: Blender -- How can a magazine that has had Christina Aguilera on the cover twice in the last 12 months be this good? Well, it is. While Spin, though still readable, continues to get smaller and smaller, and suck more and more, Blender continues to get better and better. Though I don't agree with all the musicians that are covered, when they do cover the ones that I love, they always hit the nail right on the head.

Food of the year: The Sausage McGriddle from McDonalds. -- Holy Fucking Shit. Yummy. Honorable mention: The Philly Cheese Steak Pizza from Dominoes. (Not the best pizza of all time by far, but still pretty tasty, and a damn good idea.)

Food in dire need of a comeback: The Edge Pizza from Pizza Hut. (and cancel the goddamn New Yorker.)

Television show of the year: Most Extreme Elimination Challenge (Spike TV) Runners Up: I love the 80's, I love the 70's, I love the 80's Strike Back, I'm With Busey, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Late Night With Conan O'Brien.

Best Live Band: Led Zeppelin. Check out the CD and DVD, suckas. Other bands should be studying their film, like athletes watch other teams films.

Worst trend of the year: Trucker hats. They will be cool again someday, like they were 4 or 5 years ago when I used to wear them, but for right now the wrong people are wearing them, and it's much to widespread to support at this juncture.

Best Talk Show Host: Conan O'Brien. Runners Up: Ali G, Michael Essany, Jon Stewart. (don't fool yourselves. Daily Show ain't that great. You're just wishing Jon Stewart had a real talk show again, like I do.)

Biggest disappointment of the year: Concerts in general, but especially the Atmosphere one I went to. Crowds are so lame now days. Slug knows how to move a crowd, and is a genius, but there was too much negative energy at the Atmosphere show. I left depressed.

Biggest misjudgement of the year: Me thinking Mo Rocca was lame a couple years ago. After watching him more this year on all the I Love the..... shows on VH1, I have a new found respect for his brand of comedy. He's excellent. As Michael Ian Black got more annoying (I still love him, so don't get your panties in a bunch), Mo Rocca became the true star of the I Love the... shows.

Most underrated continuing awesome trend: Even more reasonably priced live double (and even a couple TRIPLE!!) albums from Pearl Jam? How can this be possible. Don't mistake generosity for overkill.
