I remember one time in elementary school (3rd grade I think), for show and tell, this girl Joanna was telling a story about how she met the police at Aloha Stadium, in Aiea, Hawaii.

I kept thinking to myself, "big deal", because my dad was a police officer, and I've met plenty of cops, usually once a week at least.

What was this girl babbling about? I was probably being a brat because she was getting attention, and because my show and tell probably sucked that day.

Anyway, I started off on a rant about how meeting the police wasn't a big deal, and at the same time I was wondering why they were at a stadium. Was there some kind of convention or something? Must've been all the cops from across the nation or something...

Then somebody was nice enough to tell me before I got loud enough to spread my ill-informed gospel across the classroom.

"Um....Jon...I think she's talking about THE BAND....you know.... THE POLICE?"

All I could think of to say was "Oh... yeah"

Boy did I feel like an idiot.

Then I was really jealous, because the funny thing was I actually liked the Police, even back when I was in the 3rd grade.

I guess I didn't really understand things like concerts at that point, but I was definitely down with the fuzz.

Even at age 9 I was a music snob.

I kept thinking "What was she doing at a Police concert? They're my band", rather then trying to bond with her over our mutual interests.

I'm so small minded sometimes.
