2003-01-06 | DOUBLE AXE HANDLE

I've seen some great cameos on tv the last couple nights:

David Cross (and I think Bob Oedenkirk might've been on, too, but I didn't see either name in the credits) on Aqua Teen Hungerforce

Weird Al Yankovic on Brak Show

Kid N Play on Sealab 2021

Phillip Baker Hall on Seinfeld (the old guy from Paul Thomas Anderson films)

One of my new favorite things to watch on is Mexican Wrestling.

I wish I spoke Spanish, because I would enjoy it even more if I could understand the commentators.

The wrestling is a lot more realistic then the WWE, but the crowd is not as enthusiastic. I mean sometimes they are, but never when a really impressive move is performed.

If somebody at WWE headquarters is researching other wrestling leagues, they're not trying hard enough, because they could get a lot of ideas from the Mexican brand.

There are a couple of guys that used to be in the WCW.

One of them, La Parka, is hilarious.

His entrance music is "Thriller" by Michael Jackson.

He wears this black suit with bones drawn into it to make him look like a skeleton.

He does a lot of funny dancing and gestures.

Sometimes he pretends he's in slow motion, and the crowd eats it up.

Another thing he does, is he'll move out of the way of a charging opponent, and sneak behind them and pinch their butts.

He used to be in WCW, along with a guy who just returned to Lucha Libre (i think), Juventud Guerrera.

Juventud Guerrera is one of the most impressive wrestlers I've ever seen. Just can't believe he's not making it big in the WWE. Maybe that's by his own choice.

They have a lot of midgets in the Mexican league, too, something that American pro wrestling has pretty much abandoned completely.

There's this one guy who looks old, and really fat....like unhealthy fat, and he can barely run, but the people seem to like him ok. He must've been really good many years ago or something. He has a real name, but they refer to him as "Super Porky" at times. He has this cheesy leather jacket with a picture of Porky Pig on it.

They have a lot of simple names in that league. Sometimes too simple. But it works somehow. Tarzan Boy. Black Tiger. Latin Lover. They even have a Jasson and a Leatherface, dressed up like the respective horror movie villains.

One of the guys came out to the song "Du Hast" by Rammstein.

I thought it was odd for a Mexican wrestler to come out to a German bands music.

I really love Japanese wrestling, too, but it's hard to find that anywhere. Last time I could find it was in Hawaii.

Anyway, I probably turned off a lot of readers by talking about wrestling, but I don't care. It brings me happiness.
