when i'm in a band i'll extend my hand

to each and every fan

unless they're drunk and sweaty

or if they think Meantime isn't as good as Betty

i'll smile before i leave the stage

i won't destroy my instruments in a fit of rage

i might knock over a drum kit or two

i might even dance on stage with you

i'll hand out play lists if you want

and throw out some guitar picks, even if you're not in the front

i'll ask the backstage bettys if there's anything i can do

i'm don't just sing about problems, i'm a client, too

i'll make sure the drummer throws out his drumsticks

and the bouncers get rid of all the loudmouth dumbshits

i'll pay homage to all who have influenced me

i'll always be gracious even if it ruins me

i'll thank you whenever you clap

i'll talk between songs, even if it makes me look like a sap

hopefully i'll tour with some of my favorite bands

hopefully the look in my eyes will re-influence them when i shake their hands
