2002-08-18 | YOU CAN FIND IT FASTER THAN IT CAN FIND YOU

For those of you who think it's funny when Eminem dresses up like a nerd, or when Dre from Outkast wears crazy wigs, and dresses weird, I've got two words for you. KOOL KEITH.

Do some research.

Can't anybody be original anymore?

Remember when hip-hop was fun? Some of it still is. But there's nothing funny about stealing someones schtick.

I'm kind of a fan of Outkast, but I was a bigger fan when they were being themselves. I have to agree with Keith Thornton and admit that Dre has been acting a little bit too similar to the Ultramagnetic one.

And Kool Keiths music is better anyway. He has so many albums, and he keeps coming up with original ideas. He's incredible. He inspires me so much. But I would never try and copy him. That's the kind of flattery I don't take part in. And the people that rip-off from him don't even give him credit where it is due anyway. I even heard Run from RUN DMC talking shit about Kook Keith. Someone finally mentions him, and it's negative. Keith didn't even say anything to prompt a response. "Rev Run" is just jealous because he has nothing more valuable or exciting to add to the hip-hop community.

If anybody ever gives me shit about liking the Deftones, I don't give a damn. I find Chino to be a very captivating stage presence. I enjoy watching him on tv. I like his style. And they will always get respect from me for their taste in music. A few years ago when 120 minutes was on regular MTV hiding late at night, because the content was way too good to be shown at decent hours, whenever an artist came in to do the show, they would film a promo that would be shown at a later date. They would ask the bands to state their favorite albums, or videos. When the Deftones were on they spoke proudly of Kool Keiths album, "Sex Style". I was glowing. Immediately I was a lifelong Deftones fan.

If you find out about Keith, and don't like him, I understand. He's not for everybody.

And if you know about him already, and love him, please let me know. I could talk about him for hours.

"Is the world made of plastic, is the city buried in dreams? Is the world made of plastic, 'cuz that's the way it seems"

"I could throw a thousand pound walrus through the wall"

"Your insurance is high, and my price is cheap"

Do some research.

Find the music.

Don't wait for it to come to you.

Don't assume "if it's that good, i would've heard about it already".

That's bullshit.

Read magazines, go to shows, listen to people that know.

Buy these albums:

Ultramagnetic MC's "Critical Beatdown"; "Four Horsemen"

Cenobites "Cenobites L.P."

Sinister 6000 "A Much Better Tomorrow"

Ultra

Dr. Octagon "Dr. Octagynecologyst"

Dr. Dooom "First Come First Served"

KHM "Game"

Analog Bros. "Pimp to Eat"

Masters of Illusion

Kool Keith "Black Elvis"; "Sex Style"; "Matthew"; "Spankmaster"

I know I'm forgetting a couple, but once you get these, you will probably find the other ones, one way or another.
